Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles decided to get ahead of the center market last week by acquiring Garrett Bradbury from the New England Patriots, and it already looks like a solid move. On Friday, the Bears agreed to trade for Bradbury in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round pick, and the move riled up fans who were hoping to see a bigger splash following the sudden retirement of Drew Dalman. It turns out those splashes probably weren't going to happen.

One day after the trade, the Buffalo Bills re-signed center Connor McGovern on a four-year, $52 million deal that will pay him $13 million per year. And on the first day of the NFL negotiating window, the Las Vegas Raiders backed up the BRINKS truck for Tyler Linderbaum, agreeing to a three-year deal worth $81 million ($27 million per year) and $50 million guaranteed. Meanwhile, the Bears snagged Bradbury for a Day 3 pick next season and will only count $5.7 million against the cap in 2026.

Bradbury isn't the same caliber player as Linerbaum or even McGovern, but neither one would have ended up with the Bears. McGovern signed with Buffalo before free agency opened, and Linderbaum's contract priced him out of the Bears' range. In just a few days, the Bradbury deal looks much better than when it was initially announced, and the Bears weren't left in the dust.
