Fulltime Observations

  • Bayern played the second half to perfection. They took the air out of the ball, demonstrated absolute control and eventually broke through with a luckily deflected shot.
  • Bayern’s boring possession lulled Real Madrid into making mental mistakes down the stretch, namely Eduardo Camavinga’s insanely stupid second yellow card…that was an easy decision for the referee and should not be debated.
  • Bayern overcame a decade of Real Madrid frustration with two big wins. The level of confidence in the locker room will drive Bayern toward the treble.

Bayern heads back to the Allianz Arena this weekend for a Bundesliga match against Stuttgart. If Dortmund drops points to Hoffenheim on Saturday, it’s possible that Bayern can clinch up the title on Sunday. Bayern will advance to play PSG in the Champions League semifinal later this month.

Champions League Scores

  • Arsenal 0-0 (1-0) Sporting CP
  • Liverpool 0-2 (0-4) PSG
  • Atletico Madrid 1-2 (3-2) Barcelona

Halftime Observations

  • There has been more action in this first half than Arsenal’s entire season. Bayern have controlled possession but Real Madrid’s speed has wreaked havoc on Bayern’s backline.
  • The Madrista Magic is in full force. Manuel Neuer threw away Bayern’s first leg lead with a howler in the first minute. Later on, Brahim Díaz flopped for a free kick but Arda Güler took advantage with a masterful free kick.
  • Luis Díaz’s movement on Harry Kane’s goal was simple yet vital. The run dragged the defender away to create plenty of space for Kane to receive and finish.
  • This game has plenty of goals left. Either team can seize the reins but will have to defend a furious comeback from the opponent.

1’: LET’S GOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Vincent Kompany is starting the second leg with his go-to lineup. There was some concern regarding Serge Gnabry but he will at least start the match, likely yielding minutes to Jamal Musiala in the second half. Real Madrid will be without the services of Aurélien Tchouaméni due to yellow card accumulation, but he will be replaced by world class midfielder, Jude Bellingham.

After dominating for the first 70 minutes of the first leg in the Champions League quarterfinals, Bayern Munich eventually escaped with a 2-1 advantage over Real Madrid. This also marked Bayern’s first win over Real Madrid in the last 10 meetings. Over the weekend, Bayern traveled back to Germany for a 5-0 beatdown of St. Pauli, breaking the Bundesliga’s single-season scoring record with five games to spare.

Real Madrid caught fire in March but have suffered two losses and a draw since Kylian Mbappé returned from injury. Real Madrid have a rich history of producing Champions League magic but will need to convert their chances in front of a raucous crowd at the Allianz.

Prediction

Bayern draws 3-3 (advances on 5-4 aggregate). This is going to be one of the wildest games you’ll ever see. Bayern presses early against Real Madrid’s low block and Harry Kane scores a header from a set piece. Real Madrid will storm back with three straight goals from Kylian Mbappé to take the aggregate lead. The home crowd will rally behind the Rekordmeister, resulting in a Kane penalty kick in the 80th minute. With both teams physically and mentally exhausted, Luis Díaz will be the stoppage time hero with a 1v1 breakaway goal that starts from a Real Madrid corner kick.
