MUNICH, GERMANY - MARCH 06: Luis Diaz of FC Bayern Muenchen gives a thumbs up during the Bundesliga match between FC Bayern München and Borussia Mönchengladbach at Allianz Arena on March 06, 2026 in Munich, Germany. (Photo by S. Mellar/FC Bayern via Getty Images) | FC Bayern via Getty Images
Fulltime Observations
- Bayern’s depth flexed its collective muscle with a calculated and overwhelming performance. Leon Goretzka, Kim Min-jae, and Lennart Karl were all impressive. Unfortunately, Raphaël Guerreiro and Nicolas Jackson failed to provide value against a weakened opponent.
- Why was Bayern so keen to push Thomas Müller out the door but try to squeeze every last ounce out of Manuel Neuer? Just let Jonas Urbig play the rest of the Bundesliga slate.
- Maycon Cardozo is quick and fearless but also showed dedication and patience to the team concept by staying out wide and playing his role. His minutes over the next three months will be a direct reflection of Vincent Kompany’s belief in his development.
- Upon the substitution of Joshua Kimmich, Jamal Musiala received the captain’s armband. This is an intriguing moment in the Musiala’s career.
Bayern will quickly return to action with two challenging road matches this week. On Tuesday, Bayern will travel to Italy for the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 draw with Atalanta. Next Saturday, Bayern will head to Leverkusen for a Bundesliga clash.
FT: Bayern wins!
89’: Goal, Gladbach. Bayern up 4-1. Super sub Wael Mohya capitalizes on a relaxed Bayern defense on the free kick to ruin the clean sheet.
84’: Substitution. Wael Mohya replaces an injured Hugo Bolin.
81’: Substitution. David Daiber replaces Joshua Kimmich. This is Bayern’s fifth and final substitution. Kimmich passed off the captain’s armband to Jamal Musiala.
79’:GOOOAAALLL! Bayern up 4-0. Lennart Karl beats the defender to the endline and blasts a cross off the foot of Nicolas Jackson.
67’: Substitution. Lukas Ullrich replaces Jens Castrop.
66’: Yellow card. Nicolas Jackson is booked for dragging down Jens Castrop off the ball.
62’: Substitutions. Shuto Machino and Fabio Chiarodia replace Franck Honorat and Haris Tabaković.
61’: Substitutions. Josip Stanišić, Raphaël Guerreiro, and Maycon Cardozo replace Dayot Upamecano, Luis Díaz, and Konrad Laimer.
57’:GOOOAAALLL! Bayern up 3-0. Jamal Musiala converts from the penalty spot to give Bayern an overwhelming lead.
56’: Red card. Rocco Reitz is sent off for trying (but failing) to take down a free Nicolas Jackson in the box.
46’: Substitution. Jonas Urbig replaces Manuel Neuer.
Halftime Observations
- Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka have been bossing the midfield. They have been overly aggressive in cutting off passes and quickly finding forward passes into dangerous areas.
- Lennart Karl’s spectacular form has returned. He was barely offside on that gorgeous run and shot, set up by the patience and precision of Goretzka.
- Nicolas Jackson’s only chance at redemption is through being opportunistic in limited minutes. Standing between the two Gladbach center-backs is not enough. Serge Gnabry is a better fit as Harry Kane’s backup and Jackson should find a nice warm seat at the end of the bench for the next three months.
- Luis Díaz scored another banger. Par for the course, nothing to see here.
HT: Bayern up 2-0 at the break.
45’+1: GOOOAAALLL! Bayern up 2-0. Bayern runs the counterattack and Luis Díaz finds a wide open Konrad Laimer on the backpost. Impressive finish by Laimer.
33’:GOOOAAALLL! Bayern up 1-0. Leon Goretzka’s clever flick over the defender is finished by an incredible one-time volley from Luis Díaz.

1’: LET’S GOOOOOOOOOO!!!
With the upcoming Champions League match against Atalanta on Tuesday, Vincent Kompany is resting most of the starters. This includes seven changes from the Dortmund win. Dayot Upamecano, Joshua Kimmich, Konrad Laimer, and Luis Díaz are the only carryover starters.

Thanks to the late heroics from Joshua Kimmich, Bayern Munich’s thrilling 3-2 win over Borussia Dortmund bumped the Rekordmeister to an 11-point lead atop the Bundesliga table with only 10 matches remaining. This weekday contest against Borussia Mönchengladbach will be the first of five games in a tight 15-day window. Vincent Kompany will be tasked with the balancing act of keeping the lineup fresh but playing at a high level.
Gladbach only sits three points outside of the relegation zone and will be looking to grind out any points down the home stretch. At the very least, Gladbach will hope to avoid another early red card, like the 3-0 thumping they received from Bayern back in October.
Prediction
Bayern wins 4-0. With the pressure relieved after the big win against Dortmund, Bayern will come out and play free flowing offense and a high pressure defense. Michael Olise will explode for two goals in the first half before providing assists to Jamal Musiala and Luis Díaz.
