Ava Workman’s bank shot with 1.9 seconds left in overtime gave Greenbrier East a 57-55 win over Morgantown for the Battle For the Springhouse girls championship Saturday in Colonial Hall at The Greenbrier.
Morgantown’s Sydney Deusenberry had tied the game with a 3-pointer with 13.3 seconds to play. Workman then drove nearly the length of the floor and sank the shot for the final two of her game-high 30 points to keep the Spartans undefeated at 16-0.
Workman had a big two games at the fifth annual tournament. She was a combined 20-of-37 (54.1 percent) from the floor and scored 57 points.
Maddie Ancell led the Mohigans with 24 points.
Parkersburg 84, Riverside 40
Lauren Flanagan scored a game-high 21 points as Parkersburg defeated Riverside 84-40 in the girls consolation game.
The Big Reds led 31-12 after the first quarter and then held the Warriors to five points in the second.
Frances Guise added 13 points and Lucie Cline 11 for Parkersburg.
Ava Ward led Riverside with 16 points. Anna Roop followed with 10.
Boys
Bridgeport 68, James Monroe 65
Gavin Williams’ 3-pointer with 2.9 seconds left gave Bridgeport a 68-65 win over James Monroe for the boys championship.
The shot completed a comeback for the Indians, who trailed 54-45 after the third quarter. They outscored the Mavericks 23-11 in the final period.
Aryon Dodd led Bridgeport with 23 points. Anderson McDougal had 15 and Williams finished with 14.
Ryan Mann scored 19 to pace the Mavericks. Kadyn Hines had 17 and Jayden Miller 12.
Wyoming East 65,
Greenbrier East 54
Talan Muscari scored 20 points and Wyoming East bounced back from its rough loss to Bridgeport to defeat Greenbrier East 65-54.
The Warriors also got 18 points from Keegan Davidson and 13 from Broc Johnson.
The Spartans were led by Brody Hamric with 18 and Darius Burns 15.
