May 31—MARSHALL — A trio of offensive surges by Windom sent the Montevideo baseball team into the Section 3AA elimination bracket.

The Eagles scored four runs in the top of the third, five in the top of the fifth and six in the top of the seventh to beat the Thunder Hawks 16-5 at Legion Field.

Windom faces Fairmont in the 3AA semifinals at 5 p.m. Monday back at Legion Field. Montevideo takes on Paynesville in an elimination game at 5 p.m. Monday at Irish Yard in Milroy.

Hayden Tietz led an Eagles offense that finished with 15 hits. Tietz was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Jackson Joyce, Soren Nielsen, Stevie Meyer, Easton Piotter and Ben Ludewig each had two hits for Windom. Joyce was also the winning pitcher, striking out two over five innings.

Griffin Epema was 2-for-3 with two runs for the Thunder Hawks. Cameron Kibler was 1-for- 4 with three RBIs. Ben Gunlogson, Caleb Klaassen and Josh Kranz each had a hit for Montevideo.

After giving up three runs in the top of the first inning, Fairmont bounced back to claim a win over New London-Spicer at Legion Field in Marshall.

The loss sends the Wildcats into the elimination bracket. They'll face Luverne at 7 p.m. Monday at Irish Yard in Milroy.

Jensen Livesay and Joey Crissinger each hit home runs for the Cardinals. Livesay was 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Crissinger went 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs.

Easton Munsterman led NLS' offense. He went 2-for-3 with a solo inside-the-park home run in the top of the fourth. Ethan Nelson and Cole Laughlin each finished with a hit.

Paynesville's Esau Nelson won a pitchers' duel against Morris/Chokio-Alberta's Alex Asmus in an elimination game at Richter Field in Granite Falls.

Nelson threw a complete game, striking out 13 with three hits and no walks. Asmus struck out 11 with six hits and two walks surrendered.

Reed Johnson and Matthew Hemingson both were 2-for-3 for the Bulldogs. Johnson had a double and two runs. Hemingson hit for a double and had an RBI.

Dawson-Boyd fell to the Section 3A elimination bracket after being shut out by Murray County Central at the Irish Yard in Milroy.

The Blackjacks face Adrian/Ellsworth in the elimination bracket final at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Yankee Field in Milroy. The winner plays MCC for the 3A title on Thursday at the Irish Yard in Milroy.

Teague Meyer threw a complete-game shutout for the Rebels. He struck out 10, giving up two hits and two walks. On offense, Krew Schneider was 1-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI.

Aedyn Dahl and Aiden Olson both were 2-for-3 with a stolen base for Dawson-Boyd.
