Barcelona playmaker set for a contract extension this summer — here’s why


Dani Olmo’s future at Barcelona is not in doubt, and the club are moving to reward the Spanish international’s loyalty with an improved contract ahead of his third season at the Camp Nou.


The agreement has already been signed and will come into effect this summer, reflecting both the club’s gratitude and their recognition that Olmo has consistently put Barcelona’s interests ahead of his own financial gain.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the contract improvement stems directly from the sacrifices Olmo made when he first joined the club in the summer of 2024.


At the time, the midfielder turned down more lucrative offers from Premier League and Bundesliga clubs to facilitate his move to Barcelona, accepting a reduced salary to help the club navigate their Financial Fair Play constraints.


He went even further during the registration crisis of January 2025, dismissing approaches from clubs that were ready to sign him for free with a significant bonus, choosing instead to trust in the word of Joan Laporta and Deco.


That loyalty is now being repaid. The improved deal brings his salary in line with his status within the squad and compensates for the two seasons in which he earned below his market value.

In his second season at Barcelona, Olmo has achieved the consistency Flick was looking for, playing 46 official matches, scoring eight goals and providing nine assists, and featuring in 85% of the team’s games in 2025-26.


Despite receiving a financially lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia, which he did not entertain, and being linked with Arsenal and other major Premier League clubs this summer,


However, Olmo has no intention of leaving before his contract expires in 2030.
