Long rumored to be close to signing with Paris Saint-Germain, young talent Rodrigo Mora is going through a more difficult period at FC Porto. His stock remains high, however, as Barcelona is among the powerhouses still attentive to his development.
PSG may have done well to hold off. Through his sports advisor, Luis Campos, the Parisian club long coveted young Mora last year. The FC Porto attacking midfielder was linked to the French capital during his breakthrough.
At that time, the Parisian interest was not surprising given that the Portuguese fit the recruitment policy. But the trial was ultimately denied, and the revelation of last season renewed his contract with his club until 2030, before experiencing a dip in form.
Under coach Francesco Farioli, things have become significantly more complicated for Mora. The 19-year-old attacking midfielder is struggling to establish himself in the Italian coach's starting lineup.
His difficulties have not prompted PSG to return. On the other hand, many other European powerhouses continue to follow his development. According to journalist Ekrem Konur, Barcelona is watching promising youngsters, and the FC Porto gem is among them.
It has even been reported that the 2025 Nations League winner, Portugal, is being followed by Real Madrid, Newcastle, Liverpool, and Manchester City.
All these teams still seem to believe in Mora's potential, even if his difficult season has moved him away from coach Roberto Martinez's plans.
In this context, Barcelona and the other suitors will likely be reluctant to bet tens of millions of euros on his transfer. But all of them, except PSG, which is no longer mentioned in this case, are ready in case Mora returns to his best level.
Truth be told, it’s a shame that PSG are no longer consistently being linked with Mora. He is the kind of player who, although many might picture him as a winger, would probably be deployed in midfield by Luis Enrique, and the level the Portuguese youngster could reach there would be remarkable.
Even so, Barcelona also appears to be a good destination for a young player who needs to bounce back after going through a few dips in form. We’ll have to wait and see who lands this talent, who undoubtedly has the potential to make headlines for decades to come.
