Barcelona make decision on Luis Suarez as potential alternative to Julian Alvarez

Sporting striker Luis Suarez has been mentioned as a target for Barcelona this summer if a deal for Julian Alvarez can’t be agreed but it seems that the Catalans won’t be moving for the 28-year-old after all.

Fabrizio Romano reported earlier this week in an “exclusive” that Barcelona were considering Suarez but now seems to have changed his mind entirely.

The latest update says that Barcelona “won’t activate his €80m release clause” and Sporting are now expecting Suarez to stay.

Barcelona are now just about a week away from their first game of the new La Liga season but do not have a recognised striker in the first-team squad following the departures of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres.

Talk continues about a possible move for Alvarez but there’s been little movement since the forward announced during the World Cup he wanted to move and Atletico are adamant he won’t be sold.

Various alternatives have been mentioned but, as we head towards the end of the transfer window, it’s still not clear if Alvarez or any other striker will arrive this summer.
