Mar. 13—WOODBURY — For the first time since 1997, the Willmar Bantam B1 hockey team is heading to state.

Willmar kicked off the 2026 Minnesota Hockey Bantam B State Tournament on Friday with a quarterfinal game against Osseo/Maple Grove. The tournament continues with semifinal and consolation semifinal games on Saturday. Sunday features the consolation championship at 10 a.m., the third-place game at noon and the state championship game at 2 p.m. All games are at the M Health Fairview Sports Center.

The rest of the field includes Minnetonka Blue, Hermantown, Mankato Gold, Minneapolis black, Bemidji Blue and Prior Lake/Savage.

The state tournament comes after Willmar won the District 5 championship and placed second in the regional tournament.

Willmar claimed the district championship after beating Sartell on Feb. 22. That earned Willmar a spot in the regional tournament on Feb. 27-March 1 at Waseca. At regionals, Willmar went 3-1, including a 2-1 victory in four overtimes over Sartell to secure second place.

Members of the Willmar Bantam B1 hockey team are Maddoux Allinder, Nathaniel Engstrom, Greyson Fladeboe, Deven Hegreberg, Izaiah Hegreberg, Lewis Hotek, Jackson Konold, Brecken Laumer, Ayden Martinez, Max Munkholm, Mason Norsten, Logan Olson, Zach Oviatt, Jackson Rannetsberger, Elijah Schieck, Kolten Schunk, Bentley Skindelien, Easton Sorenson and Russell Strand. Willmar's head coach is Adam Schow. Cory Fladeoe and Sam Anez are assistant coaches. Marci Tersch is the team manager.
