The Baltimore Orioles earned a 3-0 victory against the Cincinnati Reds on Friday. Although the O's shut out the Reds, it was not the best pitching performance overall. Baltimore was able to limit Cincinnati to only four hits, but the ball club allowed six walks.
Starting pitcher Trevor Rogers was responsible for five of those base-on-balls. However, he also struck out four and surrendered only two hits across five innings of work on the mound.
Rico Garcia allowed one walk and no runs, while Yennier Cano and Tyler Wells shut the door without giving up any base-on-balls. The Orioles' pitching has been inconsistent this year, so Friday was a step in the right direction despite the walks.
Rogers' performance was not perfect, but he pitched well enough to help his team on Friday. The left-handed pitcher now holds a 4.70 ERA across 16 starts to go along with 65 strikeouts. He has not performed up to expectations following his big 2025 campaign, but the southpaw still has the potential to make a significant impact.
Rogers will look to build off his promising outing moving forward. As long as he can limit the walks, he should be alright. Nevertheless, he did a good job of working around his five base-on-balls in the game.
The O's pitching turned in a respectable enough performance as mentioned, while the offense did just enough to help matters. The Orioles scored three runs on four hits. They also drew five walks, as Reds starter Brady Singer allowed five base-on-balls.
Samuel Basallo led the way for the O's from an offensive standpoint, as he recorded one home run and two RBI in the ball game. Adley Rutschman, Taylor Ward and Pete Alonso all had hits as well. The lineup has had better days, but the team certainly will not complain about earning the win.
Baltimore is now 41-48 overall this year. The Orioles are in fourth place in the American League East standings and 13 games back of first place. It has been a disappointing campaign for the O's, but there is still time to bounce back and make an AL Wild Card run.
Baltimore has now won two consecutive games. They are hoping to keep things going on Saturday night against the Reds once again. First pitch for the O's and Reds' next contest is scheduled for 7:10 PM ET in Cincinnati.
