The Baltimore Orioles earned a 7-5 victory against the Seattle Mariners on Thursday night. The O's have been trying to find consistency all season long, and Thursday's ball game was a step in the right direction. Pete Alonso is also heating up, as he hit another home run in the contest. Alonso has now hit long balls in back-to-back games.
The slugger has also recorded hits in three consecutive games. Overall, he is now hitting .243/.320/.455 across 70 games played. He has 15 home runs and 12 doubles.
Alonso signed with the Orioles this past offseason in what was a surprising decision. Some expected him to return to the New York Mets, while others thought he may sign with another big market ball club. Instead, Alonso decided to sign with the O's.
He endured a difficult start to his career with Baltimore, but he is beginning to find his rhythm at the plate. His team is still trying to get things going, though.
Baltimore was able to split its four-game series with the Mariners. Nevertheless, the team is still just 33-37 overall this year. The Orioles are 5-5 over their past 10 games.
The good news for the O's is that the American League is not especially deep this season. They could certainly make a competitive run in the AL Wild Card.
With Pete Alonso getting things going at the plate, the O's may be close to finding their rhythm as a team.
While the pitching did not have its best performance, the Orioles performed well overall on Thursday. Starting pitcher Kyle Bradish allowed five earned runs across four innings of work. The bullpen was strong, though, as four relievers pitched and they did not allow any runs.
Offensively, Alonso led the way with his home run and two RBI. Adley Rutschman added two hits and three RBI while Colton Cowser had a home run as well. The lineup ended up recording seven runs on seven hits in the victory.
Baltimore is set to continue the homestand this weekend against the San Diego Padres. It will be a three-game series before the Orioles go on the road once again. The Padres are another team with lofty expectations, but they are also trying to find consistency overall.
First pitch for the first contest of the series is scheduled for 7:05 PM EST on Friday night in Baltimore.
