The Wisconsin Badgers are gearing up for Fall camp, as the Big Ten Media Days wrapped up this week. Camp starts on August 6th, and position battles will continue as the team prepares for the season opener against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
There will be one player on the roster, though, who will not be practicing with the team: running back Gideon Ituka, who suffered a serious injury last season in the team’s 31-7 loss to the Indiana Hoosiers in November.
Since the injury, there hasn’t been much shared on Ituka, although his playing future has looked murky after such a serious incident. This week, head coach Luke Fickell gave some clarity on Ituka’s future, which might not include more playing days.
“Gideon Ituka’s career is likely done at Wisconsin,” The Zone’s Zach Heilprin reported on X. “Luke Fickell says it’s unlikely he’ll ever be cleared to play. Is still around the team and working out.”
Ituka had enjoyed a bigger role in his redshirt freshman season, getting some major run down the stretch after starter Dilin Jones got hurt. He had 60 carries for 255 yards, with 49 of those touches coming in his final three games before the injury.
It seems like Ituka will still be around the team, but his playing days at Wisconsin seem to be over.
