It was quite a night for Azzi Fudd at The Shed at Hudson Yards in New York City. The former UConn women’s basketball star was selected by the Dallas Wings with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft.

When her name was called, Fudd made her way to the stage for a photo op with WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert, when everyone noticed something different from earlier in the night.

The league had better be on notice.

It was also a historic selection by the Wings, with Fudd and Bueckers becoming the first college teammates to be selected No. 1 overall in back-to-back years by the same team, and the second time that former UConn teammates were selected No. 1 overall in consecutive years. The two women won the 2025 NCAA national championship together with the Huskies, before their historic reunion one year later.
