There are quite a few Los Angeles Lakers fans who don't feel good about the team's new-look roster, and it isn't necessarily because LeBron James left. Such fans feel the team's new additions are somewhat underwhelming, and a few are even concerned that Walker Kessler, the 7-foot-2 center whom it just acquired from the Utah Jazz, isn't proven enough.
But rising star Austin Reaves feels a much different way. Armed with a new four-year, $185 million contract about to start for him, he told Keith Jouganatos of KRCR, a television station based in Redding, Calif., that he's excited about the new teammates he will be running the court with this fall.
Los Angeles lost James, Luke Kennard, Marcus Smart, Jaxson Hayes and Rui Hachimura in free agency. But it has gained Kessler and guard Jaden Hardy via trade, as well as wing Quentin Grimes, big man Sandro Mamukelashvili, guard Collin Sexton and center Kevon Looney via free agency.
Just about everyone expects the Lakers to be at least somewhat worse than last season, when the squad went 53-29 and finished fourth in the Western Conference. But this coming season, L.A. could look like a more cohesive and well-fitting team around Reaves and Luka Doncic, as well as a more fluid team that has more well-rounded players than before, especially on offense.
L.A. may not be done making moves yet. It still has a few contracts it can move in order to add a wing or forward, and it is in pursuit of free agent Jonathan Kuminga.

“Very excited,” Reaves said when asked how excited he is about the Lakers' moves. “You know, obviously you never wanna see people you’ve been with for years leave. Obviously, I don’t have all the time in the world to talk about how great LeBron is and how much he means to me and my career. But, miss all those guys. But it’s a good opportunity for us to turn the page and see what’s next.”
