Jan. 11—WATERTOWN, S.D. — The Austin Bruins rolled into Watertown this weekend riding a seven-game winning streak and setting atop the North American Hockey League Central Division standings.
The Bruins headed home late Saturday night having been swept and now sitting in second place in the division.
Watertown's Justin Obrochta scored midway through the third period to snap a 2-2 tie and give the Shamrocks a 3-2 win Saturday night. Watertown won by the same score Friday night to take all four points in the standings from the two-game weekend series.
Watertown scored twice in the first 6:28 of the game to take a 2-0 lead. The Shamrocks never trailed in the game, though the Bruins did fight back to tie the score at one point.
Andrew Leung scored his first goal of the season 8:10 into the game, to cut Austin's deficit to 2-1.
That's how the score remained through the remainder of the first and all of the second period.
Austin needed just more than a minute in the third to tie the score.
Standout defenseman Nathan Williams notched his fifth goal of the season 1:16 into the final frame to knot the score 2-2.
That's how the score remained for the next eight minutes, until Obrochta scored the game winner.
Mikey Coleman, EJ Paddington, Gus Elbert and Siamion Marshchanok had one assist each for the Bruins, and Jack Solomon made 12 saves. Austin outshot Watertown 43-15 in the game.
The Bruins are back in action next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 16-17, at the Bismarck Bobcats. Both games are scheduled to begin a 7:15 p.m.
