The Auburn Tigers have had mobile quarterbacks before, but South Florida transfer Byrum Brown has a skillset that the program has not seen in a while.

Last season as the Bulls signal-caller, Brown passed for 3,158 yards and 28 touchdowns. He also rushed for 1,008 yards and 14 scores. He is also entering his fourth year playing in the Alex Golesh system.

In a recent interview, Brown talked with On3's Chris Low. In that interview, he discussed his ability as a runner and how it also helps him as a passer. At South Florida last season, he rushed the football a total of 175 times. It is a good question to ask: Can his style hold up now that he will be playing against SEC defenses?

“You’ve always got to be smart about when you take hits, where you are on the field and those things, but I’m not going to change the way I play,” Brown told Low.

Brown needs to stay within himself, but the Tigers do not have much experience at the position behind him.

For Auburn, it will also be key for Brown to use his athleticism to enhance the passing game. This is especially true when the protection breaks down in front of him. In the interview with Low, Brown described the confidence he has in his abilities.

"I feel like I have the ability to make something happen when the pocket breaks down, but sometimes that’s not the best play," Brown said. "You’ve just got to really focus on your training and hone in on your discipline and go from read to read to read, and then if it’s not there, make something happen."

Auburn fans will get a first look at what Brown can do with his skill set when the Tigers play the Baylor Bears in Atlanta to open the season on Sept. 5.
