Auburn baseball is back in action at Plainsman Park on Saturday afternoon to face the Nebraska Cornhuskers in game two of its weekend nonconference series.
Auburn set the tone of game one by scoring five runs over the first four innings to take a 5-2 lead. However, Nebraska caught life after Auburn ace Jake Marciano, who struck out nine batters and allowed two runs on five hits over his five-inning start, was replaced.
The Cornhuskers tied the game at 5-5 in the 8th inning with a two-RBI double by Dylan Carey and an RBI single from Cole Kitchens. In extra innings, Nebraska exploded by scoring four runs in the top of the 10th. Auburn answered by scoring three runs in the bottom frame, but it was not enough to seal the win, and Nebraska took game one, 9-8.
Auburn will look to even the series Saturday afternoon with Jackson Sanders on the mound. Sanders allowed four early runs to Florida State in his last start, but bounced back by striking out nine batters and walking just one in the Tigers' 8-5 win over the Seminoles last Saturday in Arlington.
