The Atlanta Falcons are headed into the 2026 season ready to change the narrative on the franchise and find a way to get back to the playoffs for the first time in a decade after some very torturous seasons.

Under new head coach Kevin Stefanski, Atlanta hopes to take things to the next level and find a way to capitalize on what is a very talented roster in the building despite some underachieving in recent years.

One of the reasons Stefanski even took this job was because of Bijan Robinson, and while he is unquestionably going to be the bell cow for this offense, the room as a whole has some exciting pieces as well.

Here's a look at everyone who is currently projected to contribute out of the backfield.

Bijan Robinson, RB1

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who the top dog in this room is. Not only is he the team's lead back, he might be the best in all of football and is the most important weapon in this offense. Between what he does both on the ground and in the air, the unit runs through Robinson.

If he can have his best season yet, the Falcons might have some serious hope at having one of the better offenses in football, which would likely mean a return to the playoffs.

The way he's trended, it would be foolish to bet against Robinson.

Brian Robinson Jr., RB2

From one Robinson to another, Atlanta brought in the former Alabama standout this offseason on a one-year free agent contract. Interestingly, he did a nice job in a similar role behind a superstar last season, racking up 400 yards for the San Francisco 49ers while spelling Christian McCaffrey.

Assuming the former Robinson is healthy, the Falcons don't need the latter one to be superman, they just need him to be reliable when called upon and not turn the ball over. After not fumbling in 92 rushes last year, Atlanta will hope he can do just that again.

Tyler Goodson, RB3

A former undrafted free agent out of Iowa back in 2022, Goodson spent the first three years of his career with the Indianapolis Colts largely with the practice squad, but he does have some game experience with 54 career carries for 264 yards and a touchdown.

Another one-year deal brings Goodson to a new stop for the first time and it will likely be a similar role in which he is asked to serve as depth and potentially a carry or two per game.

Nathan Carter, RB4

Carter will battle with Goodson for the third running back spot as it's likely a toss up whether they carry four on the roster on a week to week basis. He does have the advantage of being with the team last year -- he had 60 yards on nine carries -- but under a previous regime, this may not matter a whole lot.

His age could work to his advantage over Goodson given he has less tread on the tires, but either way, the battle between the two for reps is worth watching.
