Athens-area schools produce 10 state champs at GHSA track and field

Track and field were the first batch of spring sports to conclude, with tennis and soccer following closely behind.

GHSA went May 11-14 at the University of Georgia. There were 10 overall state champions, all individuals, from the Athens area. Four actually competed in and won multiple events between Classes 3A, 4A and 5A.

Jackson County's Sole Bailey swept the hurdles competition, earning first place in the 100-meter and 300-meter, while North Oconee's Hannah Mustard swept the throwing competition, earning first place in shot put and discus.

Oconee County's Aaron Brodrick swept the long distance competition, earning first place in the 1-mile and 2-mile runs, while Enea Kujath took home first place in the 100-meter hurdles and discus.

Jefferson's Teah Gales claimed first place in shot put, while East Jackson's Branturan Callahan claimed first place in high jump, Michael Kelleher claimed first place in the 800-meter run and Abby Worley claimed first place in pole vault.

Commerce's Tucker Davis and Camden Thomason both claimed first place in pole vault brackets.

Here is how Athens-area high school track and field athletes did at the state championships. Only runners, hurdlers, jumpers and throwers who placed in the top 10 in their event will be mentioned.
