San Diego is closer.

Its not like the Cards are 4 hours away from where the game is played. Heck Miami is just a couple of hundred miles from Cuba lets send the Dolphins there for a game.

Total rubbish.

San Diego doesn't play in 100 degree heat.

what reward? Sitting in sweltering heat for 3 hours?

Not everyone whines about the heat as much as you. Bring water, scream until you're hoarse supporting your team, interact with other fans and even fans of the other team - it's a feeling you can't get sitting at home watching the TV. :doi:

I'm not the one whining. I could care less quite frankly. I go to the game because I like football. In case you haven't noticed there is generally about 40 or 50k other people who aren't there for a reason. One... losing.. two.. heat.

More people seeing your product. Now granted this would have been better had the team been competitive but if more people see your team, new stadium, new unis.. that might turn into more merchandise sales.
So, at the expense of alienating season ticket holders we get to have the entire nation (or those that bother to tune into the game) watch the nation's best college team play an overachieving team that went 2-14 last year. Hmm. I see your point; the Cardinals win in this one. (sarcasm)

Your fans not sitting through another steaming hot ass Sunday in Sun Devil Stadium
I see. So they're actually doing the fans a favor. Brilliant!

Bigger gate 104,000 fans compared to 35,000....
I would think that the NFL had to kick in a few bucks.
I would think that one less game at SDS meant less they had to pay ASU.
This is the only reason it makes sense--and that because this is the only reason they're doing it. They're selling out the home fans for $.

Before the last couple of seasons, the average attendance for home games was just under 48,000 per game so you're numbers are off a bit. The early games generally have had lower attendance, but you're making it sound like no one goes.

Can't wait to see how many of those who have always used the heat as an excuse for not going to the games actually make it to the air-conditioned games in Glendale.

Again this would hold more weight if we were talking about a team that benefited from a soldout stadium.

I really wish there was some percentage that could be placed on the number of people that were actually upset about this. I am quite confident that number would be low. To me there are plenty of other things to be upset about.

Dude, it's not about a cost benefit analysis. I'm sure the cards are going to be making more money on the deal. That's not the point. The point is that they have a precarious relationship with their fans already because they've sucked for so very, very long. You don't do this to a fanbase that has remained loyal through such crap. It's wrong.

Again - it's not about a percentage of the general population. It's many of the season ticket holders who are upset. We've (now they've) followed this team for years, some since the team arrived here, and this is our reward - a division home game ripped from here and sent to Mexico City?

The organization doesn't care about their fans - they never even questioned me when I suddenly called in and canceled my two season tickets of 11 years. A solid organization is going to ask you about your decision right on the spot, or at least through follow-up contact. They didn't care enough to do either.

And can you stop with the 35,000 Mexico fans posts. There will be over 100,000 people at that game.

I can't argue with your personal feelings, but I really don't have a problem with it as much.

I think it could have been a very good thing IF it was done right.

Fans can blame the ownership all they want, but IMO it is a waste of time. The Cards made a decision that to most people is a good decision.

Most people complain about the heat in September and early October so what do they do? They eliminate that problem and give themselves a chance to showcase their product.

So who did they really piss off? 10,000 ... 15,000? How many season ticket holders were actually going to show up this week?

Cliffy,Cliffy,Cliffy, you don't get it do you!!! It's about wanting to win and giving your team the best chance at winning. The Cardinals best chance to beat the 49er's is to play them at SDS. Most people don't think that it's a good decision to play in Mexico. PO'ing 15,000 season ticket holders is more than half of their fan base, I would pay particular attention to the loyal Cardinal fan base, it's all that they have.

If the Cardinals would ever freaking win that would take care of the dearth of fans at the stadium. If management thinks they are going to see sellouts in the new stadium with a 4-12 team they are in for a rude awakening.

Brian:

You've long been one of the most-passionate defenders of both the Cardinals and the importance of their fans going to support them in person. It feels like a tipping point for this team if fans like yourself are walking away.

The Cards organization may not care why you canceled your season tix, but I'd be interested to hear your reason(s). What pushed you over the edge?

Mostly the Mexico game. It was and still is ridiculous that they ripped a division home game away from us after all our years of supporting the team. That and a previous bad experience with their staff was enough for us.

I'm still all for going to the games, I'm just not going to be one of their clones. We just show up and get scalped tix outside the game, if we haven't gotten them from a radio contest or friends before that.

The first thing most people say is "You gave them up after 11 years? What about your seating priority?" I just tell them I didn't expect the Cards to get that right either.

It's really no big deal to me, I went to every game before becoming a season ticket holder. I just didn't see the benefit in being one any longer. :|

Clif,

Your arguments have ZERO weight. The average Mexican football fan could care less about the Cardinals...I'm not talking Mexican-American, I'm talking Mexican. The Cardinals aren't going down there and build a fan base, heck most of the people who see the game this week will never see another one in their lifetime.

I work on the border, I see more Oakland Raider and Dallas Cowboy crap than anything else crossing from Mexico. Cardinal gear is rare, very rare. I actually see more Cruz Azul, Chivas, Pumas and Club America than anything(soccer teams), the NFL just isn't a big deal to them.

I bet they do "sell out" but I'd be shocked if 50% of those tickets were actually bought and paid for by the people who are sitting in the seats. They'll give away as many as they can so that it looks good on TV.

On a side note as for college I see more UNC stuff than anything, guessing they just like the "foot" on the logo more than anything though.

The question is, will those millions of homes actually tune in to a Cardinals/49ers game

So you are saying more people will tune in because the game is in Mexico City? The Cardinals could have had an ESPN game this season anyway, as bad as the team has been in the past they had Sunday night games and this year there was all the hype and how we had a chance to win the NFC West yada yada.

What they did was take away a home game and it makes no sense.
