Three prospects tested positive for marijuana

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Three candidates for this weekend's NFL draft, none of them considered high-round prospects, tested positive for marijuana at the scouting combine two months ago, ESPN.com has learned.

Officials from five different NFL teams, all of whom received the update more than a week ago, verified the reports. One league source confirmed the positive tests as well but, because of NFL confidentiality guidelines, could not comment on them.

The most prominent prospect of the three is Arizona State tight end Mike Pinkard, who is regarded by most teams as a middle-round selection. The others, North Carolina State defensive tackle Terrance Martin and tailback Santonio Beard of Alabama, are viewed as late-round prospects or even as free agent candidates.

The agents for two of the players, Alvin Keels who represents Martin and Ed Cunningham for Pinkard, said they have not been notified by league officials of the positive tests.

"But maybe the notification doesn't come until you're actually in the league, after the draft," Keels said. "At any rate, it's good to have a heads-up when there is something like this. It's definitely something for me to look into."

Albert Irby, the agent for Beard, did not return a telephone message.

It is likely that, because of the tests, the players will enter the league as so-called "Phase One" offenders. That could subject them to random testing and to counseling as well.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported last week that Michigan State wide receiver Charles Rogers and cornerback Torrie Cox from the University of Pittsburgh were red-flagged by combine officials for having diluted urine. That is a situation the league considers a "masking" device and is regarded as a positive test.

So they smoked some pot, big deal. We can only hope that one day in the future the gov realizes the stupidity of the war on drugs and puts a stop to the multi-billion dollar waste of money and time.

This was posted by someone on a Springsteen board I look at from time to time. It totally cracked me up!

True story... A few weeks ago some old guys in even older military uniforms were trying to hand me and my buddy literature on "Stamping out Pot".

I tolds this man "but I smoke pot once in a while"

He says .. I swear to God..."Then why don't you move to RUSSIA?!"

????????????

"Because they don't have good pot in Russia!"

Looking at it, it STILL cracks me up!

I compleatly agree with you about the stupidity of, at least, marijuana laws. That being said, if I were drafting I would be somewhat concerned about drafting someone who would smoke pot when they knew that they were going to be tested. Pass the test, then pull all the tubes you want.
