The Astros have placed Bryan Abreu on the restricted list with no public explanation as for why
The restricted list is, according to MLB writer Jason Mackey, “for players who are under contract but unable to play due to unexcused, personal or non-baseball reasons.”
There has been no public information as of now regarding why Abreu was moved there.
Abreu’s season has been a massive disappointment on the field. Prior to this year, he was an elite option in the back of Houston’s bullpen with a nasty slider-fastball combo.
Now, he’s currently rocking a 6.39 ERA according to Baseball Reference and is the most obvious example of the pitching woes that have hindered the Astros’ playoff push.
VanWey has pitched three scoreless innings with the Astros this season as a fringe roster player and will replace Bryan Abreu for the time being.
