The Houston Astros may be one of the teams looking to pursue a trade before the deadline, but there seem to be some implications on how they go about it. General manager Dana Brown has let it be known that the team doesn’t want to trade anybody on the major league roster. At the same time, they’re known for having one of the worst farm systems in the league, which could make it hard to make a deal at all.
“We do have the (prospect) capital,” Brown said on the team’s pregame radio show. “We do not want to pull from our major-league team. We have a good core. We got a good group going right now and the team is playing very well. Everyone is settling into their role. We’d like to keep it like that and not pull from our major-league team.”
The Astros are taking calls, and they’re apparently telling teams what they’re willing to move on from before the deadline, according to Chandler Rome of The Athletic.

“The Athletic reported on Saturday that Houston has told at least two teams it had no intention of trading from its major-league roster and would pursue deals centered around prospects. Before the season, The Athletic’s Keith Law ranked the Astros’ farm system 28th out of 30 teams,” Rome wrote.
The Astros are currently 57-55 and are in first place in the AL West, but one bad week and they could find themselves slipping in the standings. That’s why it makes sense that they want to pursue a deal, but it may come with the cost of doing something they don’t want to, which is trading someone on the major league roster.
It’ll be interesting to see what Brown plans to do with a day left.
