Astros make roster moves ahead of Mariners series originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Houston Astros have lost four straight games and are coming off getting swept by the Colorado Rockies -- the first time since 2012. After getting swept, the Astros open a four-game series at home against the worst offense in baseball, the Seattle Mariners — the Mariners are last in team batting average (.184) and OPS (.581).
The Astros have sadly been dealing with a high number of injuries. Right-hander Hunter Brown (Grade 2 shoulder strain) was the latest player to end up on the injured list. Because of their injuries, the Astros tweaked their roster ahead of their series with the Mariners.
The Houston Astros add two players to replace two injured players
According to Astros beat writer for The Athletic, Chandler Rome, right-hander Ronel Blanco (torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow) was placed on the 60-day injured list on Friday.
Right-hander J.P. France took the place of right-hander Cristian Javier (right shoulder tightness) on the active roster. France appeared in three games with the Astros Triple-A Sugar Land, where he had a 0.00 ERA, a hold, and eight strikeouts in 5.1 innings.
The Astros also called up outfielder Taylor Trammell, who replaces injured outfielder Jake Meyers (lower back tightness). Trammell was hitting .226 with a 1.003 OPS and two home runs in 10 games at Sugar Land.
France and Trammell both appeared in games for the Astros last season. The 31-year-old France appeared in two games with a 1-0 record and a 2.25 ERA, while the 28-year-old Trammell played in 52 games, hitting .197 with a .629 OPS and three home runs.
