The Houston Astros have been one team that has seen a lot of success out of their first-round draft picks over the years. They have drafted players like George Springer, Lance McCullers Jr., Alex Bregman, Kyle Tucker, and Carlos Correa, just to name a few.
So, it goes without question that the front office will be looking for another future All-Star later this summer. And at pick No. 17, they should certainly be able to find someone with a good future ahead of them.
They will have a pick of a ton of exciting high school and college players. And given their last first-round pick was a prep player, they could lean into that trend once again this year.

When looking at the mock draft boards, some of these players caught on a lot earlier than others. However, some players are riding the hot hand and improving their stock late.
That is the case for California two-way prep star Jared Grindlinger. After reclassifying in February, he has looked the part, especially as a frontline starter.
Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter believes he could be an excellent pick for the Astros at 17, but there's a catch.
"A legitimate two-way talent and one of the top prospects in the 2027 draft before he reclassified in February, Grindlinger looks increasingly likely to go off the board somewhere in the 15-20 range. With a projectable 6"3', 180-pound frame and three present plus pitches, his future is likely on the mound. If he is set on continuing to play both ways, he could be a tough sign away from a Tennessee commitment."
Now, there could be a problem getting him signed if Houston or any team that drafts him wants him to focus on just pitching. He may just head to the University of Tennessee, continue to develop, and return to the draft later.
