It’s rare that a make-or-break series can line up in early July, but it sure feels like the Yankees are there right now. After flipping a four-game lead in the division to a four-game deficit in the span of little more than a week, New York has a golden opportunity in front of themselves to right the ship with a four-game series against the Rays starting later tonight. If they can perform than the gap in the East can close and even completely vanish with a miraculous turnaround, but if they continue to stumble than suddenly they’ll be buried with a deficit approaching the double-digits and just three head-to-head games left on the schedule.
So the stage has been set, but can the Yankees deliver? What will happen to them after this series has been played out? The All-Star break is approaching, and it’s around this time that the trade rumors will start to flourish, but the Yankees sure look like they could use a life preserver here and now before things get too out of control. Can they afford to set the market and overpay for some of their needs, and can they convince anyone to bite if the standings reamin as packed as they are? If you have questions like these, or anything else on your mind, send ‘em in for a chance to be featured in our Yankees mailbag.
Answers will run on Friday afternoon. All questions received by the night of July 9th will be considered. You can leave your submissions in the comment section below or by e-mail to pinstripealleyblog [at] gmail [dot] com.
