Q: Ira, Ryan Conwell seems to have no conscience when he shoots. He just keeps putting them up from long range. I am not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing, I am leaning towards a good thing. – Rich, Plantation.
A: Shooters got to shoot, so good thing. And better in July to learn about NBA-level closeout speed and athleticism, as well as what shots are the right shots, than when the games count. We already know the confidence is there. Next, you build from that.
Q: Why would LeBron James need to sign that early when he’s open to a vet minimum? Shouldn’t he see how the rosters are adding up to determine what team he wants to line up with? Him waiting doesn’t change much because those organizations don’t have to hold out on big money moves. – Antoine.
A: It remains difficult to wrap one’s head around the fact that LeBron James – King James – actually would deign playing for the minimum salary, a player who has gone on record decrying players who accept less than their salary-cap value. Is he worth the $52 million he earned last season with the Lakers? Actually, probably yes. So, yes, he could sit back and cherrypick the roster that gives him the best chance of winning or where he feels most comfortable. But minimum-wage (NBA, speaking) LeBron is still somewhat of a staggering concept.
Q: Giannis Antetokounmpo is set to sign on Monday. Can we celebrate that for the next couple of days? Can we talk Giannis and Bam Adbayo a bit? – Douglas.
A: Actually, while the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade can become official Monday, the actual welcoming process could drag on a bit based on Giannis’ summer scheduling. Monday could be interesting, though, to see how all the processing of the trade works out, and if there yet could be a Heat plus-one in this process. As they say, not official until it becomes official.
