As often suspected, Colts really are run by Manning

He is out there coaching the receivers, the running backs, the linemen, everything," Francisco said. "When I was hurt for six weeks with my ankle injury, I was watching the offensive side of practice that I really don't get to see when I'm in on defense. I've never seen nothing like it. I mean, the coaches are just standing on the side, not coaching, and he is doing all the coaching. It's crazy, but it's real awesome and I see why he is such a great quarterback."

I doubt it would ever happen, but I would love to see Manning as a head coach in the NFL when he retires from playing. His football IQ and passion is unlike anything I have ever seen. As legendary as he is as a player, I think he could reach the same level as a coach and that would be fun to see.

How sad is it that probably one of the primary reasons we didn't win the Super Bowl last year is going back on a different team?

According to an aticle in yesterday's Republic his wife hung a picture of "that moment" in their game room because she "wanted a Super Bowl memory". Dang, lady. Get a photo from Media Day.

agreed.

Caldwell just stands there as a figurehead. But give him credit--he is smart enough to know not to try to stop Manning from doing what he does.

Polian runs the off the field things (like pulling the starters in the Jets game), Manning runs the on the field things. Although I do think Caldwell/whoever the D Coord is handles the defensive plays. I think. ;)

I played hockey for a living, and I can tell you that great players rarely make great coaches. They simply can't understand why others can't do what was so easy for them.

See the Coyotes with Gretzkey the last few years vs with Tippett this year.

LOL, I saw a funny quote on Sando's facebook.

Sign manning to $15 mil a year for being offensive coord, giving league min for his qb salary. Brilliant cap saving move, if there is a cap in the future

If Freeney's being even half accurate, and Manning wants to continue on, then this would be the exception that proves the rule.
Manning isn't a guy like (for example) Barry Sanders who plays from moment-to-moment.
He's a known strategist who's preparation takes him from a guy who's all-around-solid to perhaps the greatest QB ever (I said it).

I don't think you will find too many people willing to argue that point.

Perhaps, if interested, he'll make a fine coach, but it won't be because "exceptions prove any rule".

It is just a nonsensical saying, that is right up there with giving 110%.

I think he'd make an excellent coach. He understands players' capabilities and knows exactly how to maximize their strengths and minimize their weaknesses.

He's made Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie into legitimate threats. Wayne and Clark can have off-days and the team doesn't miss a beat. Early Doucet would probably be an All-Pro on the Colts.

Peyton knows how to read a defense and make an on-the-fly adjustment, likewise give him a full halftime to think, and he can totally turn around the flow of the game, i.e, Jets game.

Hell, I think he could even be a good Defensive Coordinator because he could expose their flaws and that's half the battle....

Manning's got a Super Bowl so he's "arguably" the best. One more(this year?) and he's the best period. I think he's gotta have more than 1 though to finish icing the cake. I'm talking about surpassing guys like Unitas and Montana, not Brady.

I don't think there's much doubt that he's better than Brady. However, if I had one drive at the end of the game to win the Superbowl, I would want Joe Montana.

Of course that is subject to change over the next few years...

I'd take Ben Roethlisberger :D
