Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is personally leading the drive for the Gunners to sign Aston Villa attacker Morgan Rogers, according to talkSPORT. The Emirates Stadium club are preparing for next season’s title defence and Arteta wants to lure the England international away from the Villa Park club. The Arsenal target bagged 14 goals and 12 assists across all competitions for the Villans this term as Unai Emery’s side won the Europa League title.

Villa value Rogers at a minimum of £80 million but a bidding war is likely to drive that price to around £100m. The Gunners are not the only ones keen on the 23-year-old, with Chelsea and Manchester United also admirers. Preliminary talks between Arsenal and the representatives of the Villa star have already taken place and expected to continue in the coming weeks. Both Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard have been linked with summer exits and Rogers is seen as an upgrade on them.

The attacker can play on both wings and through the middle, and more suitors are set to watch him at the World Cup with England next month.

Arsenal will be desperate to wrap up a deal for Rogers before the tournament, but Villa know an impressive outing from him for the Three Lions in North America will help them increase his value.
