Starting to look like #Brewers home opener could be Monday night against White Sox. If reports of larger COVID outbreak among Cardinals is true, that team would have to be sequestered as the Marlins were.

One more issue arising from postponements, according to a manager with one of the clubs: “Not easy for players to stop and then go hard again.” Six teams currently waiting to resume: WAS, PHI, MIA, TOR, STL, MIL.

Comissioner Rob Manfred tells me “We are playing. The players need to be better, but I am not a quitter in general and there is no reason to quit now. We have had to be fluid, but it is manageable.”

Owners want to play and their belief is players want to play. Obviously 16 players were concerned enough to opt out, but management folks suggest, with testing every other day and protocols (presuming they’re followed) it’s as safe/safer than normal behavior away from team.

Teams that have seen how the Cubs are operating in a pandemic say they have it “completely buttoned up.” Not to say it will be easy to keep this record, but the Cubs are the 1 team to have ZERO Covid positives, including even on intake.

They should just cancel the season.

I disagree. The players should take this seriously across the board. If they do this can work but all yet takes is one selfish prick to screw the thing up.

Therein lies the problem. One bad apple can spoil the whole darn bunch.

Much more seriously than us being entertained by baseball is the problem of our
society shutting down because of the same proportion spread over hundreds of
millions of people.

And the U.S. having the worst COVID-19 performance of any country in the world.

As the Europeans used to call us for our arrogant behavior, the Ugly Americans.

As we look back on the relatively short history of the U.S. becoming THE world
power, it was too much, too soon! "Hey, U.S., see you on the way down." And,
starting with our dysfunctional politics, they are.

Major League Baseball is just a microcosm of it.
