Glad that we don't have Houston, Utah, TCU next year.

Top Tier Contenders

Team Key Outlook
Texas TechPreseason favorite and defending Big 12 champion. Added Cincinnati transfer QB Brendan Sorsby (via NIL) and top defensive transfers. Offense is expected to be a major strength.
BYUOffers significant roster continuity with the return of their head coach and starting quarterback, combined with a strong recruiting class. Expected to start the season in the top 15 nationally.
ArizonaReturning starting QB Noah Fifita is a major asset. Aims to build on a successful 2025 season and prove their strength in early road games.
HoustonConsidered a Big 12 "sleeper" contender with strong offensive returnees, including QB Conner Weigman and top receiver Amare Thomas. Expected to be ranked in preseason top 25.
UtahNavigating a coaching change with Morgan Scalley taking over, but still considered a potential contender with a deep roster.

Middle Tier & Rebuilding Teams

Team Key Outlook
TCUAiming for a rebound season after adding transfer QB Jaden Craig. Will open their season in Dublin, Ireland, on August 29, 2026, against North Carolina.
Oklahoma StateExpecting improvement after a challenging 2025 season that saw coaching changes.
UCFHas a balanced 2026 schedule with five home conference games, providing an opportunity to build momentum.
Kansas StateFacing a roster overhaul and new coaching staff. Expected to face challenges in the competitive conference.
KansasFocused on roster building through recruiting and the transfer portal.
West VirginiaFavorable early schedule with seven home games overall, hosting key conference opponents late in the season. QB Michael Hawkins Jr. is the projected starter.
Iowa StateDealing with a coaching change after Matt Campbell left for Penn State.
Arizona StateComing off a successful 2025 season where they were a top four contender, looking to maintain that momentum.

Teams Facing Challenges

Team Key Outlook
CincinnatiOverhauling the roster and coaching staff after a difficult 2025 season, with a new offensive coordinator and starting QB.
ColoradoAims to improve after a disappointing 3-9 campaign in 2025 under coach Deion Sanders.
BaylorHopes to bounce back from a losing season, but some early projections have them near the bottom of the conference.

The few early prognostications for next season that I've seen so far have had ASU behind only Texas Tech and BYU (and one behind Utah, too).

It appears the word is out, watch out for wide receiver Omarion Miller.

Texas is asking out on future home/home scheduled games and the addition of Stanford.

Dillingham on QB transfer Cutter Boley: "What excites me about him, his completion percentage was fairly high for what [Kentucky asked] him to do, throw the ball vertically down the field."

"His score was really, really good on a cognitive test" used by ASU to evaluate QBs.

Dillingham: Clayton Smith had minor knee surgery in Dec., causing him to miss the Sun Bowl. He worked on his own for two months before his sixth year was granted.

"This is an opportunity for us to see if he can become a weapon" on offense as a jumbo athlete who can also play DE.

A vertical passing game would help open up the running game even more.

I guess the Clayton Smith on offense wasn’t a typo or something.

Towards the end of the article it references him playing offense.
