The Arizona Cardinals report to training camp on July 22 and begin the process of preparing for the regular season, forming the roster and determining starting jobs and roles on the team.
Leading up to the start of camp, we will take a look at every player on the offseason roster, their background, their contract, their play in 2025, questions they face and their roster outlook.
Here is offensive lineman Jon Gaines II.
Gaines enters his fourth NFL season and his fourth with the Cardinals. He was drafted in the fourth round in 2023 out of UCLA. He spent his entire rookie season on injured reserve with a torn ACL.
He appeared in 13 games in 2024 and then played in all 17 games last season, starting the final five games at left guard after Evan Brown was away from the team dealing with a personal issue.
He was also used as a lead blocker lined up as a fullback from time to time.
In all, he logged 339 offensive snaps and 65 on special teams.
He enters the final year if his four-year, $4.6 million rookie contract. He will make more than $1.1 million in salary this coming season and will count $1.3 million against the cap.
Gaines is not a roster lock, and the starting lineup is unlikely. They signed veteran Isaac Seumalo in free agency to start at left guard, and the right guard starting job is held by Isaiah Adams, but rookie second-round pick Chase Bisontis is expected to compete and eventually win the job.
Gaines is likely the favorite to be the top backup center behind Hjalte Froholdt, and his versatility and athleticism make him valuable. But he will have to hold off other guys on the roster to make it.
