After taking a young team to the West Virginia Class AA mountaintop, Frankfort opens the 2025 season with the most returning talent.
The Falcons finished 22-9, capturing their first state championship since 1988, and they have four All-Area first-team performers back in the lineup.
Three-time defending area champion Allegany, which went 20-3 and fell in the Class 1A quarterfinals, graduated a strong senior class, including area Player of the Year Bryce Madden, but should contend again for the Western Maryland Athletic Conference crown.
East Hardy (23-7) is primed to return to the Class A state tournament with most of its production back. Likewise, Northern (11-8) and Southern (11-9) return the bulk of their starters.
Here’s what to expect from the area baseball season:
Allegany
Head coach: Jon Irons, 4th season, 56-10

Key returners: P/OF Myles Bascelli (0.98 ERA), INF Kohen Madden (.382)
Coach’s quote: “We’ve been very fortunate as a program the past three years to have players who led by example, both in practice and games. They set the standard for intensity, focus and work ethic. That is hard to replace, but we have some guys capable of filling those shoes, and our hope is that leaders will emerge to ensure we build upon the success we’ve seen the last three seasons.”
Calvary

Last year’s record: 3-12
Key losses: P/INF Levi Carrington (3.73 ERA, .277 AVG)

Coach’s quote: “With seven players not returning this year, we will have our work cut out for us. We are a very young team with only two seniors, but I love the heart of our boys. With only one experienced pitcher, we are going to be relying on some very young players to step up in a big way. I know our guys are up for the challenge.”
