Its really not unprecedented I remember several teams that had really backups ie. Foles Hostetler was a backup to Simms heavens wasnt Eli a backup to Warner for a while in NY as a rookie this is just a different way of doing that Please remember a backup is only one big hit away from a starter we should know that all too well

The one thing ignored is the human element. Rosen is anything but humble, and I just don't envision him being ok with sticking around if we take Murray. I think there's no way him or his agent don't throw a hissy fit, trash the organization, demand a trade and don't show up to OTAs/camp if the Cards actually try this. And if the Cards draw a hard line, it will be a bad look to players around the league.

Haha except the competition (Kyle Allen) transferred too. Nice try though. Murray could’ve easily transferred from OU after it was clear Mayfield was going to start the following year as well. Remember, Murray sat for two years at OU. (One due to transfer rules, one as Mayfield’s backup)

To me that's actually a bigger risk considering the money (Guaranteed) that those guys make let's see Harper 330 million and Trout 460 kinda makes football look like Bush league salary wise doesnt it

point is that Murray left for so-called greener pastures......what makes you think that if he was number 1 pick he wouldn`t feel he should start no matter what...…..even if the coaches start Rosen instead of KM.

I can almost guarantee Rosen is in on whatever the Cards decision is, at some level. He's been fairly quiet...and so has his agent. They must know, with almost certainty that he's staying as QB1, or there is a plan to trade him to a QB needy team...and they are trusting the process. If he were as immature, arrogant, aloof, etc, as some on this board have called him, he definitely would be showing his true colors by now....IMO.

The rest seems fairly well known theories of drafting. The get many picks or take a QB every 2 years have been out there. Certainly back to back is odd, but this is about the the largest shift in offensive philosophy you could have.

I’m not saying it’s a bad read but it’s mostly drawing together a few schools of thought.

Well they aren't saying keep them together permanently, just until you get the trade offer you are looking for rather than sell low.

I’ve read this article three times and have yet to see a good reason why to do this. The Eagles situation isn’t the right comparison either. Foles was clearly the backup and signed to be the backup. He knew his role and only took over because of injury.

So what trade value does the one who doesn't get the starting job have? Rosen would have less value than he does now. If it is Murray we would have busted with the first overall pick and would then be trying to move him.
