According to the article I read this morning, Rogers and his agent reported for the "whiz quiz" at 5:30 A.M. He couldn't "GO" when he got there, so they told him to drink water.
Stores like High Health, sold a product that was used to pass drug tests. It was a box of tea, and 3 pills, they charged 20 dollars for. You would start drinking the tea like 4 hours before your test, in 4 equal parts. In between the 3rd and 4th serving of tea, you take the three pills, so they would emerge in your sample, to take the place of body chemicals that would be present in a normal test, even the correct color would be shown. The tea was supposed to clean out the impurities temporarily, and the instructions said to finish the last of the tea just before testing.
"Masking" is a term used when a negative test result occurs due to agents in the sample, that make it impossible to tell if there are banned substances in the sample. Too much water in the test sample is the most common masking substance used. (a 44 ounce big gulp will do the trick.) Some employers will not pay the extra cost of another test after a watered down test, so this method has been successful in the real world, but not in the NFL.
