ROCKTON, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — Andrew Talbert is one of the greatest all-around high school baseball talents in Rockford area history. His entire skillset was on display Wednesday in Byron’s 4-0 win at Hononegah.

Talbert pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings allowing only three hits while striking out nine batters. He had a pair of hits in three at bats including a triple. He drove in two runs. He also stole two bases including a steal of home plate in the top of the fifth inning when the Tigers scored three runs.

Talbert is a junior who has already committed to playing college ball at North Carolina with the Tar Heels.

Byron senior Caden Considine had a big assist in this game. He came on in relief of Talbert with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning after the Indians put two men on base against Talbert. Considine walked the first batter he faced to load up the bases, but then he got a ground ball to Talbert at short that the Tigers turned into a 6-4-3 double play to end the game.

Byron second baseman Weston Auker also had a strong game. Not only was he the pivot man at second on the double play, but he also had a pair of hits.

Hononegah starting pitcher Zach Nett was strong in his outing. He limited the Tigers to four hits and one run in four innings of work while striking out seven batters.

Byron improves its record to 7-3 on the season. The Tigers return to BNC play Thursday at Rockford Lutheran. Hononegah’s record is now 6-4.
