The Boston Red Sox inked Justin Gonzales as an international free agent in 2024, and he’s become one of their top prospects.

Gonzales is a 6-foot-5 outfielder who is playing for High A in Greenville and is the team’s fourth-ranked prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. Gonzales is a solid hitter, and MLB analyst Keith Law of The Athletic went down and watched him and said the outfielder was ‘very impressive’ at 19-years-old.

“Gonzales is a big man, listed at 6-foot-5, 210 pounds, and I’d bet he’s at least heavier than that number now,” Law wrote in an article published on Tuesday. “He swings very, very hard, and I imagine there’s big power in there somewhere, but he didn’t show it on Sunday, going 1 for 8 with a softly hit single and a couple of strikeouts. He did square up a 100-mph pitch for a flyout to center, and grounded back to the pitcher on 97, so he was uncowed by velocity, at least.

“He’s not a good athlete and runs like a duck, upright and stiff, while showing modest range in right field. He’s only 19 and his line on the year is .305/.392/.500, with just a 15.9 percent strikeout rate, all very impressive for a teenager in High A.”

Boston signed Gonzales for $250,000 out of the Dominican Republic, and he has exceeded all expectations and is now one of the top prospects.

Gonzales projects to be a corner outfielder at the next level, but can also play first base, as MLB Pipeline said he has a ceiling as an All-Star right fielder and a floor as a hit-over-power first baseman.
