The University of Akron men's basketball team compiled another fast start Tuesday, Jan. 20 and rolled to a 82-63 win over host Buffalo.

Senior Amani Lyles scored 18 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in 26 minutes to lead the Zips (15-4, 6-1) past the Bulls (13-6, 3-4) in a Mid-American Conference game.

Akron senior Tavari Johnson contributed 13 points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals. Senior Evan Mahaffey had 11 points and two assists and his brother, redshirt freshman Eric Mahaffey, totaled 10 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists.

The Zips also received seven points, five assists and four rebounds from Shammah Scott, seven points and two assists fron Zach Halligan and six points from Bowen Hardman.

Ryan Sabol scored 26 points for Buffalo, Angelo Brizzi added 12 points and Noah Batchelor and Ezra McKenna finished with six points apiece.

Lyles scored the first six points of the game with two 3-pointers and Akron never trailed. The Zips lead reached 15-2 with 14:04 remaining in the first half via additionals 3s by Johnson, Evan Mahaffey and Lyles.

Akron's advantage reached 19-2 with 13:04 to go in the first half after an Ognjen Stankovic layup and an Eric Mahaffey jumper.

The Zips lead reached 32-12 with 7:26 to go in the first half and was 43-27 at halftime.
