Amanda Anisimova has opened up on an unexpected benefit from her recent partnership with Joao Fonseca last December.
The pair teamed up at the Miami Invitational, where they faced Carlos Alcaraz and Jessica Pegula in a high-profile exhibition mixed doubles clash. Despite the loss, the match drew significant attention and offered Anisimova a different kind of exposure.
Fonseca’s rapid rise, particularly among Brazilian supporters, appears to have had an immediate impact on Anisimova, who now feels that crossover moment has expanded her audience.

Speaking to Tennis Channel on Saturday, Anisimova reflected on the experience of playing alongside the Brazilian teenager.
“Yeah, that was a lot of fun. I feel like I gained a lot of Brazilian fans because I played with Joao for the mixed doubles, so it was a lot of fun.
“And yeah, I feel like that was very recent. So I had a bit of those memories playing on the stadium. Yeah, hopefully they have that event again because I love playing here at this venue. It’s so much fun,” she stated.
Anisimova also stated that she expects to play mixed doubles more regularly.
She added: “Yeah, I love playing mixed doubles. I know I normally do not play a lot of doubles, but I’m getting more comfortable with it, getting more used to it. But yeah, it’s always a lot of fun.”
Amanda Anisimova’s last official mixed doubles match
Anisimova’s most recent official mixed doubles outing came at the 2025 US Open.
Teaming up with Holger Rune, she reached the round of 16 before falling in straight sets, 4-2, 5-4, to Ben Shelton and Taylor Townsend.
The match highlighted both promise and inexperience in the format. As Anisimova continues to play more doubles, her comfort level is expected to grow.
