BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — The Altoona Curve are celebrating the Union Pacific’s Big Boy No. 4014 visit through Central PA with themed games and open parking Thursday and Friday night.
“We are happy to see the Big Boy, stopping in Altoona and excited that the stadium and our parking lot can be a part of such an impactful event for our community,” said Curve General Manager Nate Bowen. “At the same time, we want our fans to have the best experience possible when arriving at the ballpark. If you have any questions on parking on Thursday or Friday for the game, please reach out to us.”
The VIP lot at People’s Natural Gas Field and the parking garage will be used for parking Thursday, July 9 and Friday, July 10 as part of the Big Boy’s visit to Altoona. The lots are expected to serve people riding the shuttle to see the train until 4 p.m.
Fans attending the games Thursday and Friday night are asked to arrive at the stadium after 4 p.m. to help avoid extra traffic.
Thursday’s game will be “Shark Night”, presented by Empire Communication Systems, where the curve will “chomp into fun with shark-themed excitement, wild antics and a night of big hits both on the field and in the stands!”
A Bingo Appreciation Night, presented by Loyal Gaming Rewards, will also be held that night, featuring an enter-to-win chance for a two-person trip to Las Vegas.
On Friday night, the Curve will take the field as the Pennsylvanian Continentals, in celebration of America250, the US Continental Army and Pennsylvanian history. The event is presented by the Blair County Suicide Prevention Task Force and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
The second “Scout Night” of the season also takes place Friday, with Club Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other scout packs invited to the sleepover experience at PNG field that allows scouts to watch the game and pitch tents on the field overnight.
