Urbandale girls basketball player Alisa Pins and Southeast Polk boys wrestler Amir Newman-Winfrey were voted the Des Moines Register's female and male Athlete of the Week winners from the Des Moines metro area for the week of Feb. 15-21.
Pins won female Athlete of the Week with 48% of the vote.
She helped Urbandale roll past Des Moines East, 99-14, in the Class 5A regional quarterfinals on Feb. 18.
Pins went for 19 points on an 9 of 11 shooting performance from the field. She also chipped in four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Newman-Winfrey was voted male Athlete of the Week with 61% of the vote.
He finished off a championship freshman season for Southeast Polk with his first individual state wrestling title and helped push the Rams to a big win in the 3A team standings on Feb. 21.
Newman-Winfrey overpowered Dowling Catholic's Cruz Gannon in the 3A finals at 106, winning by technical fall (22-6) to claim his first state title with a 45-1 record.
