Algeria XI vs Jordan – Predicted lineup and team news

Algeria head into Tuesday’s early-hours fixture at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium knowing that anything less than three points will leave their World Cup campaign in serious trouble.

Vladimir Petkovic’s side were outclassed by Argentina on matchday one, falling to a 3-0 defeat as Lionel Messi ran riot. Despite that setback, Algeria retain a genuine chance of progressing from Group J — but only with a win tonight. The Fennecs have the quality to beat Jordan; the question is whether they can produce the performance their talent demands.

Algeria team news

Petkovic has a fully fit squad available and is expected to make several changes following the Argentina defeat. Luca Zidane retains his place in goal. Aissa Mandi and Ramy Bensebaini continue at the heart of the defence, with Mehdi Belghali and Rayan Ait Nouri as the full-backs.

Hicham Boudaoui retains his midfield role, with Djamel Bentaleb and Ramiz Zerrouki alongside him. The most significant changes come in attack. Mohamed Amoura is expected to start after being surprisingly left on the bench against Argentina — the forward has been in prolific form for the national side in recent months.

Captain Riyad Mahrez is also pushing for a return to the starting XI after a cameo appearance against Argentina, bringing big-match experience to the wide areas. Ibrahim Maza completes the attacking unit.

Algeria predicted lineup

Algeria possible starting XI: Zidane; Belghali, Mandi, Bensebaini, Ait Nouri; Boudaoui, Zerrouki, Bentaleb; Mahrez, Amoura, Maza
