Alexi Lalas casually drops NSFW British slang word on Fox: 'Lucky we're on American TV' originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
George Carlin fans will remember that there are seven words you can't say on television. Well, American television that is.
Not included in these seven are adjacent British slang terms, a loophole used by Fox analyst and former USMNT member Alexi Lalas. With a broadcasting crew consisting of both American and British analysts, Lalas' choice of words generated several shocked reactions.
Some fans speculated that Lalas included one of the seven words before this. In actuality, it was just a part of the NSFW British term.
This comes on the back of a string of criticism for Lalas' commentary, with this being the latest bulb in his chandelier of controversy.
Here's what Lalas said that prompted his British co-casters to be so taken aback.

Alexi Lalas casually drops NSFW British slang word on Fox
When British analyst Rebecca Lowe asked if the desk crew, consisting of her, Lalas, Thierry Henry and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, could talk about James Corden, Lalas' excitement was palpable.
In response, he said, "What do you guys call him? A full kit w—r?"
The rest of the group was shocked, as they're used to that word being strictly banned on British television. The look on Henry's face, which has quickly become a reactionary meme photo on social media, said it all.
For the American readers, w—r is a derogatory insult used in England, specifically to refer to an obnoxious person. The addition of "full kit" refers to someone who wears their team's full kit, or uniform, from head to toe.

This is far from the first strange moment between Lalas and his fellow analysts. Lalas and Ibrahimovic are now colleagues, but Lalas notably called Ibrahimovic "whiny" when the Swedish forward played for the LA Galaxy.
These disagreements continued at the desk yesterday, with Lalas making a point of disagreeing with Henry and Ibrahimovic at every turn. This includes talking over his colleagues and trying to create unnecessary disagreements.
The broader criticism of Lalas and his commentary centers around his focus on polarizing takes over analysis. Some claim that he gears his on-screen personality to be more like a hot take enthusiast than an analytical pundit.
As a result, when it was announced that Lalas would return to the desk for the 2026 World Cup, the reactions were incredibly mixed. Some fans enjoy his bold commentary style, while others preferred a different voice on the desk.
