Coming off one of the most exhilarating fights to kick off the summer, Alex Pereira has broken his silence following his loss to Ciryl Gane at UFC Freedom 250 at the White House.
As Pereira attempted to become the first fighter in UFC history to win gold in three different weight classes, Gane put a halt to those aspirations in the second round of the co-main event, defeating the former middle and lightweight champion by TKO.
While after the loss, Alex Pereira seemed to still be in good spirits, telling Dana White through interpreter, “If I hadn’t taken a risk every time I fought, I wouldn’t be where I am today…We’re going to sit down and look at it, the same way I lost at middleweight.”
On Tuesday morning, Pereira decided to break his silence on the fight and describe to fans via social media how wrong it went with referee Herb Dean’s officiating.

“It was a lucky jab, and he took advantage,” said Pereira. “That was the opportunity of a lifetime for him. This guy has a long history of it. Dirty shots, punches to the back of the head.”
The Brazilian fighter certainly has a case when calling out Gane for illegal shots, as former UFC Heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has also labeled Gane a “cheater” after their fight was deemed a no-contest following a poke to Aspinall’s eye, leaving the fighter blinded for weeks.
Sean O’Malley, who was also on the UFC Freedom 250 card, spoke to the media regarding the shots Pereira took to the back of the head, explaining that the Brazilian spoke to referee Herb Dean before the fight about Gane’s elbow strikes.
“You know what’s funny, in the rules meeting when Pereira was talking to the ref, they were having the translator go over the back of the head.” said O’Malley.
It was an interesting insight to receive from the bantamweight fighter, as Pereira also called out Herb Dean’s officiating in his social media video.
“He shouldn’t have been reffing that fight, a guy like that should be punished,” Pereia said as he ripped into Dean.
Photos of the fighter’s head were also taken and shared on his social media following his video, which has now gone viral in the MMA world.
While no response from Gane or Dean has been admitted yet, this will be an ongoing story for fans to keep up with as plans for a rematch could potentially unfold.
