Alex Cora Provides New Details On Willson Contreras Injury originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Boston Red Sox pulled Willson Contreras from Tuesday's loss in the fifth inning with a back injury, and the initial belief is that it is not a serious injury.
After the game, Cora noted that the team did not think the injury was anything serious, and there was a chance he would not play on Wednesday, in an attempt to get him off his feet before the off day on Thursday. Before Wednesday's game, Cora revealed some new information about Contreras' injury.
The most notable thing Cora added was that the team is confident that Contreras will not go on the injured list, per The Boston Globe's Tim Healey. His comments on Tuesday night indicated that the team was not worried about this being a long-term issue, but his comments on Wednesday morning confirmed it.
Cora also shed some light on when fans could expect Contreras back in the lineup.
"I think he'll benefit from today and tomorrow and be ready for Friday," Cora said on Wednesday, per MLB.com's Ian Browne.
It seems like the Red Sox may have dodged a bullet with Contreras' injury. They cannot afford to lose him right now, considering he has been one of the best hitters on the team. Contreras is slashing .298/.444/.491 through play on Tuesday with three home runs. The Red Sox need to start stacking some wins, and they will need Contreras to do that.
