Alex Bregman no longer plays for the Boston Red Sox, but he and former teammate Roman Anthony have remained close while playing for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic this spring.
Bregman still thinks highly of Anthony, recently praising him and his bright future.
"Roman's like a brother to me. I loved playing with him last year," Bregman said on "MLB Office Hours." "He is, hands down, gonna be a superstar in this game...He's gonna be one of the best players in the game for a long time."
The All-Star third baseman also gave Anthony a cool new nickname at the World Baseball Classic.
"We got one, Big Aura. Roman Anthony, Big Aura. The Biggest Aura," Bregman said before batting practice at a recent WBC game.
Sure enough, Anthony proved him right by smashing a huge three-run homer to help USA beat Mexico on Monday, coming up big in one of the biggest games of his life so far.
Bregman's right, as Anthony's overflowing with aura, especially for a 21-year-old kid. He's already one of the coolest, calmest and most talented players in baseball, oozing quiet confidence and letting his game do the talking.
Time will tell if Anthony's new moniker catches on. It's tough to beat "Roman Empire" and some of his other nicknames, but "Big Aura" is a good one.
