KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) - The Kansas City Royals released righthander Albie Lopez immediately after his dismal relief outing against the Minnesota Twins on Thursday.
Lopez worked in relief of Kyle Snyder and was tagged for seven earned runs and six hits in just two-thirds of an inning, raising his ERA to 12.71. The Twins went on to an easy 16-2 victory.
The 32-year-old Lopez was 4-2 in 14 relief outings.
Signed as a free agent in January, Lopez owns a 47-58 lifetime record. He also has pitched for Cleveland, Tampa Bay, Arizona and Atlanta.
The Royals are not expected to make a corresponding roster move until Friday.
