He underwhelmed his first couple years, but by the end he was pretty dominant, even outplaying Watson for out starting NT role.

If only he embraced his role in Arizona when playing a 3-4 defense like he has in New England, and maybe things would be different.

Alan Branch sucks. Trust me, he came out of my home town and my old high school, so I had high hopes for him. 2nd/3rd string player behind one of the best DT in the league is hardly a nice career. Sure, he still has a job but the guy is a bust. Saying he has a ring is kind of like saying the ball boy has a ring. They give them to everyone in the organization, so that doesn't mean much. Heck, even the cheerleader sometimes get them.

3 million a year at this stage of his career. Yeah that sucks.

Going into his ninth year, with eight in the bank. He's conned the entire NFL, but not BurqueCardFan.

Nope, you can't get over on me. And apparently the Cards Front office and the almighty Seahawks didn't think much of him. Two of the better defenses in the league over the last five years

Last time I checked, Trent Dilfer had a ring too. I guess you guys think he is a franchise QB?

Why should these guys care what any wahoo from an internet message board, or their hometown, says about their career? Nine years of drawing NFL paychecks (Branch) or 13 years (Dilfer) says all it needs to say. 90% of nfl players never come close to that much longevity.

That 9 years is probably enough to qualify him for an NFL pension also. I'm sure those pension checks will cash nicely while he is wearing his Super Bowl ring. Down the road of course cause he is still making 3 million a year.

I guess most people on this thread gauge a good career based on how much money a player makes and what kind of pension they qualify for. As a football fan, I am more concerned about what the player does on the field. If a guy who averaged 1 sack and 15 tackles over his first 8 years qualifies as good, then so be it. I expect a little more for the first pick in the second round, especially when you trade up to get him.

Your point about longevity is a great one.

Yet he's still in the league. Perhaps you're right about not judging a career based on money, but maybe you also can't do it based on stats alone.

He's a solid, rotation defensive lineman - any player who can put together a decade long career doesn't suck - however, there is a reason why he's been pretty well traveled

A solid, reliable player - nothing more, nothing less
