Alabama football 2028 recruiting class adds in-state 4-star QB, analysis

Alabama football has another quarterback in the 2028 recruiting class. And to secure it, the Crimson Tide are staying close to home.

Kingston Preyear, a four-star quarterback out of Alexander City, committed to Alabama Friday, July 10, choosing the Crimson Tide over finalists Florida and Vanderbilt.

Preyear reported an Alabama offer Jan. 19.

Preyear, the No. 44 player and the No. 4 quarterback in the country per 247Sports' composite rankings, is the 4th commitment in Alabama's 2028 class, joining Virginia three-star quarterback Charles Scott Jr., who committed to the Crimson Tide May 1.

What Kingston Preyear brings to Alabama football 2028 recruiting class

Another recruiting class, another two quarterbacks.

Kalen DeBoer's plan for quarterback development is becoming clearer and clearer with each passing recruiting class. Instead of a patchwork, NCAA transfer portal rental approach, Alabama is building its offense from the high school ranks, signing multiple quarterbacks in 2026 and landing multiple commits in 2027 and 2028.

Preyear is a perfect example.

A former Montgomery Catholic quarterback, who followed his coach Kirk Johnson to Benjamin Russell High School, Preyear shined as a sophomore, recording 3,026 passing yards, 518 rushing yards and 36 total touchdowns.

Preyear worked with Alabama freshman wide receiver Cederian Morgan at Benjamin Russell, a receiver Preyear described to The Tuscaloosa News as a "monster" and a "freak."

Paired with Scott, Preyear gives Alabama a continued plan and rotating cast of options that also includes in-state four-star commit Trent Seaborn and Baton Rouge five-star Elijah Haven in the 2027 recruiting class.
