Starting this past Thursday night, the Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team was tasked with likely their toughest test on the road yet, a three-game series in Baton Rouge against the LSU Tigers.
A Top 25 matchup according to the latest USA TODAY Sports College Baseball Coaches Poll, it was LSU however who got the best of the Crimson Tide, winning two-of-three games to take the series.
Alabama did not go without making this series close either, starting Thursday night in Game 1.
In Game 1, Alabama would fall by a final score of 11-6 to the Tigers, but at one point held a 5-1 lead in the contest following the top of the sixth inning. However, it would be all LSU after that point, as Alabama was outscored 10-1 over the remainder of the game, falling Thursday night.
A game in which Alabama committed three errors, the Crimson Tide saw a solid start from right-hander Tyler Fay, who had six strikeouts and one earned run over three innings, but were followed by struggles from the bullpen. In addition to that, Alabama was also out-hit 13-7 in all, but did have a combined four home runs from Kade Snell, Richie Bonomolo Jr., and Brady Neal, the former of which hit two with four RBI.
Following the Thursday night loss, Alabama then turned its' attention to Game 2 on Friday where the Crimson Tide eventually fell once again, 4-3. A close contest, Alabama once again claimed an early lead here, but LSU later had two runs scored in both the third and fourth innings to take the lead, one they would hold throughout despite a late run from the Crimson Tide.
Snell was once again impactful in the loss, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI, while Bonomolo drove in the Crimson Tide's lone other run. On the mound, Braylon Myers was the biggest takeaway, pitching 3.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen with six strikeouts.
Faced with a series sweep, Alabama and LSU then met Saturday night for Game 3, with the Crimson Tide going on to avoid a winless trip to Baton Rouge with a 7-4 victory.
In the win, Alabama claimed an early lead via a three-run home run from Bonomolo, and was also starter Zane Adams needed on his way to five innings pitched with only one earned run. Carson Ozmer also collected save No. 13 on the season by striking out five over two innings to help secure the win.
With these results, Alabama's record now stands at 31-10 overall, as well as 9-9 in SEC play. The Crimson Tide's next game will come Tuesday night at Samford.
